To maintain the academic integrity of the graduate programs and ensure that students meet course and program learning outcomes, graduate students are expected to maintain regular academic engagement in all courses, complete all assignments, meet all deadlines, participate in required course activities, and attend all required residencies.
Because most graduate courses are delivered asynchronously online, attendance is demonstrated through active academic engagement rather than physical presence or course login activity alone. Academic engagement may include, but is not limited to, submitting assignments, participating in required discussions, completing quizzes or examinations, engaging in group work, contributing to peer activities, or communicating with the instructor about course-related academic content.
Students are expected to engage with each asynchronous online course on a weekly basis. Failure to demonstrate academic engagement for more than 20% of the course, or for two consecutive instructional weeks without prior approval or substantive communication with the instructor, may result in administrative review, course failure, withdrawal from the course, or academic dismissal.
Absences or periods of non-engagement may be excused only in exceptional circumstances and with approval from the instructor and/or program administration. Students may be required to complete make-up work or alternative academic activities to demonstrate achievement of course learning outcomes. Excused absence or non-engagement does not automatically waive course requirements, assignment deadlines, or residency expectations.
Attendance at required graduate residencies is mandatory. Residencies are integral academic experiences designed to support learning outcomes that cannot be fully replicated in an asynchronous online format. Students are expected to attend all scheduled residency sessions, activities, meetings, field experiences, and required programming. Missing all or part of a required residency may result in failure of the residency requirement, failure of the course, delayed academic progress, administrative review, or academic dismissal, unless an exception is approved in advance for extraordinary circumstances.
Students are responsible for reviewing all course syllabi, Moodle announcements, residency schedules, assignment deadlines, and official program communications. Failure to maintain regular academic engagement or attend required residencies may affect a student’s academic standing and progress in the program.
